Officers arrived at a home in the 3100 block of Tulip Tree Place in Dumfries around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 8, to serve an outstanding warrant, Prince William County police said. Two of the teenagers at the house ran away before officers could figure out who was inside.
Police eventually tracked them down to Stagecoach Road, but the teens ran to a nearby business to hide, an incident report said. Officers found them on the property and arrested them without incident, but the 16-year-old refused to go peacefully.
After officers put the teenager in their patrol car, he repeatedly kicked the inside of the cruiser and damaged the door, an incident report said. Officers tried to get him under control, but he kicked them several times before they could detain.
That's when the boy thrashed in the backseat and damaged the car again. He tried to bite one of the officers when they went to detain him a second time, the report said. The teen also spat on them.
The officers received minor injuries from the encounter, officials said.
Police took the teenager to the Juvenile Detention Center and charged him with attempted malicious wounding of a law enforcement officer, four counts of assault and battery of a law enforcement officer, obstruction of justice, destruction of property, and trespassing, authorities said. Authorities did not release the teenager's name because of his age.
It's unclear why the teenager ran as police were not there to arrest him. They served the outstanding warrant on a 17-year-old at the Dumfries home, officers said.
